Woon
Wen Kin is a prolific performer, educator and promoter of music
and the most experienced symphony orchestra conductor in Malaysia.
Educated in Penang. Maestro Woon initially studied the violin with
local famous violinist, Louis Lim, before furthering his music studies
at the Trinity College of Music in London. In England his violin
major was enhanced with accompanying the International Oxford Bach
Festival, The annual Sir Henry Wood’s Concerts and the London
Opera Center and also make several violin recital recordings for
BBC Overseas Service in London. In 1967, he was selected to represent
UK in the British Youth symphony, to perform for the International
Youth Music Congress in Vienna, Austria. In 1977 he represented
Malaysia as a violin tutor at the 1st Regional Asian Youth Music
Camp in Manila and in 1978, was one of two key musicians chosen
by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to establish the National
Music Camp. He was appointed principal conductor of the 1st ASEAN
Youth Music Workshop hosted by Malaysian in 1980 and is the founding
President of the Penang Symphony Society in 1981 and has served
as Music Director since. |
